Eleventh Doctor Matt Smith appeared tonight on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, making the first appearance of a current (or any?) Doctor on a US talk show.
A 2005-style (bronze) Dalek appeared on tonight’s episode of The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson — I found out about it literally 10 minutes before the episode started thanks to Twitter and was able to set my DVR to record it in time.
I took several screen shots which I’ll post below, but first here is a video of the opening for the show, which featured Craig waxing enthusiastic about the Daleks:
BBC America has started airing their own trailer for the new series of Doctor Who, featuring Matt Smith as the eleventh Doctor and Karen Gillan as Amy Pond. This new trailer includes new footage not seen in the recently released BBC trailer, so more freeze-frame fun for us fans to over analyze the footage to tide us over until the series begins in April.
From the voice over:
“The Universe is vast and complicated. Sometimes, impossible things just happen and we call them miracles.
As I mentioned in my last post, since I wasn’t able to attend the recent Gallifrey One Doctor Who convention in LA, I’m living vicariously by posting some of the great videos which Doctor Who fans at the con have been sharing with the world.
The latest two are recordings of videos they played on the convention screens, so the picture and sound quality isn’t the best. The first one is a greeting from new showrunner Steven Moffat to the fans attending the convention — this one was shared almost immediately online, unlike the second one. (Note: the first video is a Flickr video and won’t work without Flash, unfortunately. It was the only copy of the video I could find after a pretty exhaustive search) Read full Peter Davison and Steven Moffat Videos From Gallifrey One 2010...(225 words, estimated 54 secs reading time)
According to various UK news ranging from the Telegraph to the Sun, tenth Doctor David Tennant may appear in a Doctor Who movie. Tennant has not yet signed on for series 5 in 2010 and is apparently using a feature film as a bargaining chip — offering to do series five…
But only if he can land the role of the Timelord in theaters.
The rights to make a Doctor Who movie have been held by BBC Worldwide, but plans got put on hold when the TV series returned. But now with the popularity of the show as great as it’s ever been, now might be the right time to make a film. I’ve been enjoying a show on ABC Family called The Middleman. I forget how I found out about it, since it’s on a channel I’d normally not watch, but I’ve been enjoying it a lot.
It’s very silly, but clever… almost an updated Avengers (definitely making nods to it anyway — the first episode had an extended sequence that was a spoof recreation of the opening theme to the Emma Peel Avengers — a shortened form of this serves as the opening titles for each episode of The Middleman). It’s also *kind* of like Torchwood but less angsty, “dark” and self-consciously “adult” the way Torchwood tends to be (to it’s detriment IMO). It’s a great time to be a Doctor Who fan in the United States — for so many years it was next to impossible to see Doctor Who, and it was incredibly obscure outside of fan circles. These days, with the modern series airing on Sci Fi, BBC America, a few PBS stations, and even getting mentions in TV guide and other mainstream publications, it’s a different world from the long lonely days of the 90s.
